Hello MBA Church,

David Lara gave permission to share a couple of messages he recently sent out about Lisa's surgery and condition. She came home on Sabbath afternoon, so this particular message is background information.

I visited Lisa last night and saw with my own eyes that she is doing remarkably well. Praise the Lord! Please continue to pray for her full recovery.

Blessings,
Marilyn

Hello Everyone

It has been a very long week since Monday morning and I will start by explaining some things from the start of the week. As most of you already know my wife Lisa has had open heart surgery which turned out to be a double by bypass. For those of you who are hearing this for the first time let me apologize for not organizing this email sooner but this is really the first time all week that I have had anytime to spend online. Last Monday morning 5/26 03 (Memorial Day) Lisa went to work, and about 9:00 in the morning she approached me to tell me she was having chest pains. Soon after that we went to the clinic in Watsonville where they ran an EKG and they didn't like what they were finding on the EKG and they made arrangements to transport her to Watsonville ER by ambulance. This is when it first started to look serious to both of us and they wouldn't even let me transport her 2 miles to the hospital. While at the ER they ran more tests and admitted her for the night so the could prepare her for a Cardiac cathogram or angiogram in the morning on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning we met Dr. Vasquez who is a cardiologist and he told us about the procedure that they were going to do @ 10:00am and @ 11:00am Dr. Vasquez found me in the waiting room and showed me the pictures of Lisa's heart and where the artery's had problems and he informed me that they needed to do a triple by pass ASAP. This procedure couldn't be done in Watsonville Community Hospital so that afternoon they transported Lisa to Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz where they scheduled open heart surgery for the next day. As some of you already know I was having a tough time communicating this information to some of you and the main thing I was trying to make sure of every step of the way was to be strong in front of Lisa and not worry her as we were both not prepared for any of this. Melissa, Michelle, and Gabriel are doing OK, and it gets better each day.

Lisa is only 44 years young and we found out that because she is diabetic (type 2) and she has had high blood pressure and heart disease runs on both side of her family that these are some of the reasons that she had this arterial heart disease.

About 5:10 PM on Wednesday immediately after surgery the heart surgeon Dr. Bronstien approached me and told me that the surgery went well but he could only do a double bypass and informed me that Lisa had severe hardening of the arteries. The next day he informed Lisa and I that when the surgery was finished and it was time for her heart to start up it started up right away on its own and didn't need a jump-start which was necessary in most cases so that was good news and leads us to believe that the heart hasn't been damaged and is strong.

Of course all of you know we are in love with our Savior Jesus Christ, and with all your support and prayers we know that the path to recovery will be in the hands of Jesus, it wont be long until we can leave this SIN sick world and be with Jesus and have no more pain, sickness and suffering and even through times like this we cant let our spiritual guard down because that is when the evil one will win the battle and want us to blame things like this on God but we know that it is because of the Evil one that these things happen. Without Jesus guiding Lisa to me on that Monday morning things could have been much worse, if she would have taken pain killers and had the attitude of denial she could have needed much more help than we have received so far. So I am thankful to Jesus for a helping us through these difficult times, and I know it could have been worse.

Lisa was transferred from ICU yesterday into her own room and she will be there until Monday at least. Lisa is making good progress on recovery, it will take some time for healing and a lot of things will change for us but we will be fine because we have friends like you and our best friend Jesus who will continue every step of the way with our family. Thanks to all of you for all the support, emails, phone calls and to Bill, Judy, Betsy, Chris, Ramona, pastor Sam, all our family and the MBA family for being there for Lisa.

The doctors want Lisa to have much rest and if you find it difficult to reach Lisa, you can email her at the hospital and they will deliver her emails to her bedside, she has already received so many that the delivery person thinks she is popular, and she can read them or I can read them to her and it is stress free, (something the doctors and nurses keep talking about). Here is the hospital web address dominicanhospital.org and you will find patient email services with an email address that is, pmail@chs.edu which stands for patient email. The nurses and doctors have been great and we are so thankful to all of you.

In His Service

Love David, Lisa, Melissa, Michelle and Gabriel
